Who We Are
President’s Message
COPD is a common illness that causes a great deal of suffering worldwide. In developed countries, it is the only major fatal disease of which the death rate is increasing - a disparity all the more striking amid the dramatic decline in deaths from other major illnesses such as coronary artery disease, stroke, and other cardiovascular disorders. It is estimated that 3 million people globally die each year due to COPD.1 In Singapore it is likely that more than 340,000 people suffer from it.2 Yet, unless you or a loved one have symptoms of the disease, you are unlikely to have come across the term "COPD".
The Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Association (Singapore) was founded in 2004 with a mission of raising awareness among patients, caregivers and the public about the impact of COPD and the various ways to prevent it, detect it and manage it once the disease is established. On behalf of the executive committee of the COPD Association (Singapore), I welcome and look forward to your support for the association. If you or a loved one has COPD, I urge you to join us and benefit from the association's educational programme and various support activities.
The COPD Association is a proud member country representative of the IPCRG.
